Winery

In 1950 “Don Juan del Águila” was founded as a cooperative winery, which in the 1970s produced up to 2 million kilos of grapes.

The progressive abandonment of vineyards, due to the loss of rural population in Spain, and the crisis of the sector means that in 2007 the company’s social model changed. To this day, it is still owned by the village and by the almost 100 winegrowers who contribute the raw material, betting on quality wine, on the internationalisation of markets and the uniqueness of wines made from centenary Grenache.

The winery’s only “commercial” objective is to ensure that winegrowers are rewarded more and more for their work, and that we can preserve the heritage of the old vineyards in the Gredos area.

Currently 250,000 litres of wine with Denomination of Origin are produced in the winery.

Vineyards

El Barraco is a municipality located in the heart of the Sierra de Gredos mountain range, in Ávila, in the upper part of the Alberche river bank.

The vineyards are arranged in small plots on the slopes of the peaks of Cebrera and Paramera, still worked in a traditional way.

The average age of the vineyards is 75 years, some of them reaching more than 110 years from planting, and are located at heights between 853 and 1,096 meters.

Almost 95% of the cultivated variety is red garnacha, on fundamentally granitic soils with a sandy-sandy texture.

Even today, farmers still continue to practice ancestral viticulture as it could not be otherwise, hand tilling, work with horses and sustainable agriculture.

Since a few months ago the area, our winery and vineyards have been recognized as our own appellation of origin Vinos de Cebreros.
